Delta Air Lines, AIR FRANCE-KLM and Alitalia hosted a celebration to inaugurate their new joint offices in Toronto. The ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by some 65 guests including travel agents, tourism office representatives as well as the staff of the 4 airlines.
Fabien Pelous, the newly appointed Vice-President AIR FRANCE KLM and General Manager Sales Canada for the Delta-KLM-AIR FRANCE-Alitalia joint venture, briefly explained how the business model of airlines has changed in recent years giving way to alliances and joint ventures. Stating some facts and figures, namely that 26 % of the airline industry’s total transatlantic capacity is being offered by their common joint venture, he commented: ‘Key to our success, providing more flight options and frequencies to our customers are assets that can only be offered through pulling forces together.’
Also in attendance from Atlanta, John Caldwell, Managing Director National & Specialty Sales Delta Air Lines, added ‘Success is also people-driven and today we are in presence of a dedicated team now brought closer together’.
Out of Canada, in the summer 2012, the 3 European partners of the joint venture will offer 69 weekly direct flights to Amsterdam, Paris or Roma from Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver or Montreal and Delta will provide some 80 daily flights from 12 Canadian cities to 8 Delta destinations in the United States.
