Nature-based stay in Geneva
If you prefer peaceful locations and long city walks, Geneva is made for you. There's not one but many reasons to visit Geneva during a mother-daughter weekend: first, you can stroll on the banks of the Leman lake, the snowy Alps in the background, to take a deep breath of fresh air. Then, because Geneva is a city of culture. You'll find numerous museums (do not miss the Cité du Temps to learn about the greatest Swiss watchmakers) as well as charming uptown Geneva, filled with history. Lastly, it is not possible to visit Switzerland and not try one chocolate speciality. Opt for a hot drink in a typical café, like Du Rhône Chocolatier for instance.

Shopping spree in Milan
Because there's no way around the classics in terms of fashion or decoration, it is common knowledge that nothing beats your mom's shrewd advice... Yes, yes, you know she's always right! In Milan's “fashion quadrilateral” around Via Monte Napoleone, you'll find the best Italian brands: Prada, Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace or Gucci. Here, shopping is a true religion. For tight budgets, note that it's also possible to find what you're looking for in outlet shops just outside of the city centre, as well as in galleries within, like La Rinascente Milano, where the most famous ready-to-wear retail chains rub shoulders.

Gourmet and festive getaway in Madrid
If your mom is a true hedonist, then choose Madrid, its culture and… its tapas restaurants. Actually, having tapas for lunch or dinner is a tradition in the Spanish capital, almost a way of life that answers basic codes: going out on the street, meeting a few friends and having a drink with appetisers when night falls. According to your taste, tapas may be traditional or much more gastronomic... You'll be overwhelmed with an abundance of choice. It also happens to be a very nice way to discover a festive, warm and friendly side of Madrid. Take your seats at a terrace and, as mother and daughter, you'll easily be able to chat with inhabitants and get tips on the best spots in town and how to live like locals.

In France, tradition has it that children make a gift of a noodle necklace or any other lovely piece of jewellery made with their own hands to their favourite mom. If you've grown out of it, how about offering her a dreamlike Sunday amid one of the most stylish Parisian palaces?
On Sunday 28 May, the Royal Monceau offers mothers to spend bits of happiness during a day dedicated to well-being. The hotel devised a tailor made program consisting of skin care treatments at the My Blend spa, lunch at the Bar Long and a private screening of the movie Moulin Rouge! at the Royal Monceau's Katara cinema theatre.

Mother's Day in Anna Jarvis' shoes
American poet and activist Julia Ward Howe originally launched the idea to celebrate mothers in 1870. On Mother's Day, all moms were invited to gather and unite in peace. But it wasn't until the early 20th century and Anna Jarvis that the celebration evolved into what it is today. A few years after the death of the woman who gave birth to her, and whom she had remained very close to, Anna organised a ceremony in an Episcopal church. Not able to attend herself, she had 500 carnations and a telegram sent instead. Since then in the United States, every child offers their mom a bunch of flowers on the second Sunday in May, on top of a lovely card and breakfast in bed. On that occasion, Central Park in New York will welcome all moms in the Japanese Garden, with various activities (calligraphy workshop, concerts and traditional dances) against a backdrop of cherry blossoms.
