Le Doge is a 1930s architectural jewel. From the exterior facade to the interior ornamentation, nothing seems to have changed since the day it was built—its spell remains unbroken. The entrance is a tribute to the decorative arts, from marble floor and sublime staircase to the brass-plated scrollwork and macassar wood. In the spirit of artist Tamara de Lempicka, a large painting of a ‘sleeping beauty' presides over red velvet banquette seats.
There are 16 rooms and suites, each inspired by a legendary artist or writer.
The ‘Colette' room sports a variety of wall hangings while the ‘Hemingway' features leather, wood, and animal motifs. The ‘Charlie Chaplin' is distinguished by its beige and black stripes, classic furniture, and marbled bathroom. ‘Josephine Baker', ‘Coco Chanel', ‘Humphrey Bogart', ‘Modigliani'… the spacious rooms inspire daydreams of bygone days and famous personages. If you get a sudden urge to read, indulge in a novel in the gilded wood-panelled library in the first floor lounge. It's open all day, as is the rooftop terrace, looking out onto the rooftops of Casa.
